The Coffee Pot – Perfect Pie in Bozeman, Montana

Comfortably situated in a fully refurbished circa 1932 log cabin, The Coffee Pot Bakery Café (,  80795 Gallatin Road, Bozeman Montana) is a perfect place to kick back and relax after a grueling hike up one of Montana’s many peaks, a tough day fishing on one of Montana’s clear, freshwater rivers, or even a rough day at work.

An Interesting placement for the restaurant sign, and one that has proven useful. Nearly everybody driving by sees it and wants to stop in.

It dishes out comfort food at its finest in the form of towering, voluptuous pies. There is a wide variety, sweet and savory, but best come early so you have your pick of what the bakers have made.

So many pies! I wish I could try them all in one sitting

When we arrived, we were absolutely ravenous. As a result, we ordered a slice of just about every pie in the case. For the sake of time (and in order to keep you from flooding your computer’s keyboard with drool), I will share with you just my favorite four.
As we stepped up to the ordering stand, which is surrounded by a plethora of hand- thrown pottery and crafts made in the on-premises studio, we crafted an order that included a Mixed Berry Pie, an Apple Pie, a Coconut Cream Pie, and a Chicken Pot Pie.
The Mixed Berry Pie looks almost like a sweet, sticky, deep-blue soup. The crisp, utterly flakey crust breaks up easily among a slowly flowing river of blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry pie filling, creating a luxurious and decadent blend of flavors.

Mixed Berry Pie: a soupy, sweet concoction worthy of any pie lovers palate.

The Apple Pie is just about as good as any Apple Pie can be. The crumbly, graham cracker-like outer layer melds perfectly with the dense, cinnamon-sprinkled, moist apple slices that make up the inside. It is topped with a half-inch layer of light, heavenly crumbs; they, in turn, are generously dusted with powdered sugar.

The classic and often times best pie flavor. The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe truly expresses the deliciousness of apple pie in its finest form.

Coconut Cream Pie is hit or miss in my opinion. It can be either out-of-this-world delicious, or out-of-this-world disappointing. In the case of The Coffee Pot Bakery Café, it is wonderful. The pillowy whipped cream topper lies delicate as a feather atop dense, rich, coconut-laced filling. The filling is heavily flavored with vanilla extract, which complements the mild nature of the coconut shavings.

A towering slab of coconut-y, vanilla pie resting atop a clay plate. The plate was made by the folks at The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe.

Of all savory pies, classic Chicken Pot Pie has always held the crown for me. The deep, intense flavors of the gravy engulfing carrots, potatoes, peas, and tender, warm chicken, and seeping into the flaky crust, creating a flavor mix that is sheer comfort food heaven.

A hearty chicken pot pie can be the perfect thing to eat right before taking a nap…

I recommend a visit to The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe to anyone in the mood to be dazzled by an incredible variety of sweets and treats.

It deserves 4 1/2 ZZZZs.
