“The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.”
This past Friday, my Mom and I traveled to the brand new Grilled Cheese Eatery in Westport, CT (772 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880, http://www.grilledcheeseeatery.com).
The Grilled Cheese Eatery has a location in Fairfield, and has been recommended to me by many people since it has opened. As a result of the hype it has received, we knew that we needed to give it a try.
I am the all-time biggest fan of a delectable grilled cheese, as a result of this: I consider myself to be a fair judge when it comes to the sandwich. As we entered the Westport location of the restaurant, we noticed the bare walls with barely any decorations adorning them.
It was nearly just the bones of the restaurant! After analyzing our surroundings, I began to check out the menu.
The menu features a vast selection ranging from the delectable classic grilled cheese, to interesting creations such as the Trophy and the Smokey.
As I stepped up to the ordering stand, I started to recite what I wanted. I ordered the Trophy. A glimmering sandwich filled to the brim with melted oozing gruyere cheese, perfectly sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, a sprinkle of almost non-existent mouthwateringly aromatic truffle oil, and a hefty amount of dry, unseasoned short rib meat.
In addition to the subpar ingredients, the sandwich was unevenly buttered and the goods inside of the sandwich were distributed unevenly as well.
I ordered my sandwich with a French Au Jus sauce, unfortunately they did not have it (they gave me a bag of chips instead).
On the side of the sandwich was a cool, refreshing, palate-cleansing cole slaw that wiped away the decent taste of the sandwich.
Overall, I would not go back to the Grilled Cheese Eatery until they fix some kinks and get their act together. In addition, their food is ridiculously overpriced. I would give it, ZZ – 2 Z’s- It Has Potential To Be Good.
