“Spaghetti can be eaten most successfully if you inhale it like a vacuum cleaner.”
Our first stop after leaving the airport in Memphis, was world famous, Interstate Barbecue (http://www.interstatebarbecue.com/). Interstate Barbecue has numerous locations, but we were fortunate enough to go to the original restaurant. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was 10:30pm and we were beyond ravenous. As we entered we were greeted by a very friendly cashier who happily took our orders and willingly showed us to the empty dining room. He explained to us that we had just missed the last rush of people and that the restaurant had been packed earlier today.
With the dining room all to ourselves, we began ordering our private feast. To start our meal we ordered a delectable pulled pork sandwich. The sandwich contained tender, moist, mouthwatering pulled pork, piled high with fresh, crisp coleslaw and smooth, smoky Barbecue Sauce. The sandwich was squeezed in between two pillowy, filling buns and was devoured so quickly, my Dad and I wondered where it had gone.
Next we ordered ribs. The ribs were succulent, perfectly cooked and the rich, juicy meat fell right off the bone. The fact that there were only a few, left us hankering for more and more as the meal went on.
To finish off our meal we ordered a variety of small dishes and sides. One of the dishes that Interstate is famous for is their stellar BBQ Spaghetti. The spaghetti that we obtained was slightly overcooked but was erupting with warm, spicy BBQ sauce and fantastically juicy chunks of meat. The spaghetti was delicious and was my Dad’s favorite part of the meal.
Finally we ordered baked beans. The beans were perfectly made. They were warm and filled with Interstate’s famous sauce and professionally shaven meat. The beans were a hit and I refused to give my Dad even the smallest taste.
The atmosphere at Interstate was a filled to the brim with knick knacks and pictures of famous men and women who were lucky enough to taste the incredible BBQ that Interstate has to offer. The service at the restaurant was excellent. The man who took care of our orders treated us with great kindness and constantly checked up on us to see how we were doing. The value of Interstate was decent, as a result of the medium sized portions.
Overall the food at Interstate was some of the best on the trip and I would definitely recommend a visit whenever you come to Memphis.
I would give it ZZZZ- 4 Z’s- Wow.
